requesting authorization to accept an increase in the amount of $150,000.00 and extend for one year grant funding from the Annie E. Casey Foundation for the court’s Juvenile Detention Alternative Inititives (JDAI) model site activities.

 

In 1998 the foundation recognized the Circuit Court of Cook County as a national model site for juvenile detention reform.  As a national model site, the court hosts delegations from jurisdictions around the country who visit Cook County to study the court’s juvenile detention reform efforts.  The majority of this funding is used to reimburse the court for expenses incurred in fulfilling its model site duties.  The court has received similar grants to facilitate its model site duties over the past three (3) years.

 

No cash matching funds are required.

 

Estimated Fiscal Impact:  None.  Supplemental Grant Award:  $150,000.00.  Funding period extension:  January 1, 2003 through December 31, 2003.

 


GRANT RENEWAL APPLICATIONS

requesting authorization to apply for a grant renewal in accordance with Section 30 of the 2003 Cook County Budget Resolution from the Illinois Attorney General's Office in the amount of $31,286.00 for the Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Program. This grant will provide continued partial funding for one (1) sexual assault/domestic violence specialist who provides services to adult and child victims of sexual assault/abuse and domestic violence within the Victim Witness Assistance Program.

requesting authorization to apply for a grant renewal in accordance with Section 30 of the 2003 Cook County Budget Resolution from the Illinois Attorney General's Office in the amount of $21,970.00 for the Hidden Victims Support Group Program.  This grant will fund four (4) part-time social workers who facilitate monthly support groups for parents, young adults/siblings, adolescents, and children who are survivors of homicide victims.  The grant will also fund two (2) social workers who provide one-time support group services following the Annual Homicide Victims’ Memorial Service sponsored by the Victim Witness Assistance Program.  In addition, the program will fund two (2) therapists who will be responsible for developing an eight-week, sixteen-hour grief workshop that will be facilitated by one (1) grant-funded social worker.

 

Estimated Fiscal Impact: None.  Grant Award: $21,970.00.  Funding period: July 1, 2003 through June 30, 2004.

GRANT AWARD RENEWALS continued

DENNIS MANZKE, Chief of the Administrative Services Bureau, State’s Attorney’s Office

 

requesting authorization to accept a grant renewal in the amount of $180,339.00 from the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (ICJIA) for the Specialized Victim Assistance Services Program. This renewal grant will provide continued funding for one (1) juvenile court victim specialist, three (3) victim compensation specialists, one (1) disabilities specialist, and one (1) senior specialist who works in the Victim Witness Assistance Program.  This grant also provides a monthly support group for senior victims of crime.

 

This grant requires that the office match 25% of the grant award.  The match commitment for this program is a cash match that supports the salary of one of the victim specialists, over one-third of the fringe benefits for all six grant-funded victim specialists and the senior support group facilitator payments.

 

The authorization to apply for this grant was given on August 1, 2002 by the Cook County Board Commissioners.

 

Estimated Fiscal Impact:  $45,291.00 (Required match - $45,085.00; and Over match - $206.00). Grant Award:  $180,339.00. Funding period: January 1, 2003 through September 30, 2003. (250-818 Account).
